Third Trimester Comfort Essentials: What’s Actually Helping Me Feel More Comfortable

As I’ve moved into the third trimester, I’ve realized that preparing for a baby isn’t just about getting the nursery ready or packing a hospital bag.

It’s also about finding ways to make myself more comfortable.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve definitely noticed my body changing more quickly. Sleeping isn’t as easy as it used to be, sitting at my desk for long periods makes my hips and lower back ache, and even relaxing on the couch sometimes takes a bit of strategic pillow arranging.

I wouldn’t say I’m uncomfortable all the time, but I’m definitely becoming more aware that my body is carrying around a growing little human.

Rather than trying to “push through it,” I’ve started making a few small changes that have genuinely made everyday life easier.

These are the products I’ve been using (or wish I’d bought sooner) that have helped me stay more comfortable during the third trimester.

1. A Pregnancy Pillow (I Should Have Bought This Earlier)

If I could go back and tell second-trimester me to buy one thing sooner, it would be a pregnancy pillow.

For a while I convinced myself I could get comfortable with regular pillows, but as my bump grew, I found myself constantly waking up to reposition them.

A pregnancy pillow gives me support where I need it most—under my bump, between my knees, and behind my back and has made sleeping noticeably more comfortable.

I still wake up during the night (I think that’s just part of pregnancy!), but I’m not constantly rebuilding a pillow fort anymore.

2. A Coccyx Seat Cushion for Working From Home

One thing I wasn’t expecting was how uncomfortable sitting would become.

I work at a desk during the day, and as my pregnancy has progressed, I’ve noticed more pressure through my hips, pelvis, and tailbone, especially during longer stretches of sitting.

Adding a coccyx cushion to my office chair has made a surprising difference. I’m also anticipating this to be useful postpartum so win!

It encourages better posture, takes pressure off my tailbone, and makes it easier to stay comfortable without constantly shifting positions.

I wish I’d thought about this sooner.

⚪ 3. A Birth Ball Isn’t Just for Labour

I always assumed a birth ball was something you bought for labour.

Turns out, it’s been one of my favourite ways to move throughout the day.

When my back feels tight or I’ve been sitting too long, bouncing gently or doing hip circles on the ball helps relieve some of that stiffness.

It’s also nice to have another seating option besides my office chair or the couch.

I’ve found myself reaching for it more often than I expected.

4. Compression Socks for Long Days

I didn’t think I’d need compression socks because I wasn’t experiencing much swelling early on.

Now, after longer walks, days spent running errands, or sitting for extended periods, I definitely notice my legs feeling heavier.

Compression socks help improve circulation and have become something I reach for on busier days or whenever I know I’ll be on my feet for a while.

They’re not the most glamorous pregnancy purchase, but they’ve earned a permanent spot in my drawer.

5. Supportive Slippers

One of the smallest changes that’s made a surprisingly big difference has been wearing supportive slippers around the house.

I spend a lot of time barefoot at home, but as my pregnancy has progressed, I noticed my feet getting tired much more quickly.

Having slippers with proper cushioning has helped reduce some of that fatigue—especially while cooking or tidying up.

Sometimes it’s the little things that make everyday life easier.

6. A Large Water Bottle That Encourages Me to Actually Drink More

Hydration has always been important during pregnancy, but I find it even more noticeable now.

If I don’t drink enough water, I seem to feel it almost immediately—whether that’s through headaches, fatigue, or just generally feeling “off.”

Having a large insulated water bottle beside me throughout the day makes it much easier to stay on top of it without constantly refilling a smaller glass.

It’s one of those purchases that seems simple, but I use it every single day.

Comfort Looks Different for Everyone

One thing pregnancy has taught me is that comfort isn’t one-size-fits-all.

Some people struggle most with sleep.

Others deal with pelvic pain, swelling, heartburn, or back aches.

For me, the biggest improvements have come from making small adjustments instead of looking for one magical solution.

  • A better pillow.
  • A more supportive chair.
  • An excuse to get up and stretch on the birth ball.
  • More water.
  • Better footwear.

None of these completely eliminate the discomfort that naturally comes with the third trimester, but together they’ve made everyday life feel much more manageable.

Final Thoughts

One thing I’m learning as I get closer to meeting our baby is that taking care of myself is part of preparing for motherhood.

It’s easy to focus all of your attention on buying things for the baby, but your comfort matters too.

If you’re entering the third trimester and starting to feel those everyday aches and changes, I hope some of these products help make this season a little more comfortable.

After all, we’re asking our bodies to do something pretty incredible.
